Good foot-health habits keep your feet looking neat, fresh and well-groomed. They’re also important for general health. Toenail fungus (onychomycosis) left untreated, can go from being mildly annoying, to creating a foul odor around you, and finally affecting mobility, ability to work/play, enjoy recreational activities etc.
Symptoms: Swelling and pain of toes, nails turn yellow and thick and begin to crumble. Debris/dead cells collect under the nail releasing an unpleasant stink.
Causes: Dampness, tight, ill-fitting footwear, poor hygiene, injury to nail-bed, excessive perspiration, diabetes, circulatory problems, low-immunity status, etc.
Try some of these simple home-remedies for effective and long-lasting results.
1: Baking Soda and Sodium Borate
Fungi need an acidic environment to thrive. Combine two alkaline materials like sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and sodium borate (borax) to neutralize the acids and cure toenail fungus pronto! Baking soda has disinfectant and antifungal properties, while borax is an effective fungicide. Both are easily available in your grocery-store and can be used conveniently at home. Mix equal parts in a little water to form a thick paste and apply on the affected part twice daily for at least two weeks.
